how would i do it?

i have curly hair. not like super curly but not wavy either.

would i have to straighten it first?

and braiding my hair in 2 braids doesn't work, its straight at the top and odd at the bottom.

Try more braids before giving up on the braid idea (start at the top, do tiny braids, about and half an inch to an inch wide, and at least try to do it on the top most layer of your hair). My hair is normally curly, but if I don't wash if for a while it straightens more. There are also a lot of products (I found one at walgreens) that say they straighten your hair but if you only do it for half the time it makes it wavy. Hope that helps, I have hair really similar to yours.

Try using Victoria's Secret Wave Enhancing Spray. I have totally straight hair that even using a curling iron won't keep the curl without using a whole bottle of hairspray but I used this and it enhanced the natural curl that my hair gets when wet. Kinda pricey but works really well!

if its a permanent fix u want, then a relaxer is ur answer... otherwise bedhead has a curl relaxer product that will temporarily loosen ur curls. good stuff! :)

Well the video couldn't play very far but its not really wavy. I don't like it,I think it looks like she walked a mile in the rain. I love this girls hair why don't you try this! Check out her hair I just seen it in a yahoo answer.
