Hi, I have thought of getting braids before, but I just don't know. I love it when I see it on black women and the few occasions of white women. Also, I think dreds (sp?) are so cool- like the witch in Narnia- that was hot!
I don't think I'd ever do dreds though b/c that it like, irreversible (I think).
Would braids even hold up in straight hair? I can see how the kink in black women's hair would help the braids hold together. I just don't know...

Totally! I am white and I have had my hair braided before. I am getting braids soon with extensions and it will work just like it would on a black person. This site is excellent and by the way you can get dreads that aren't permanent...just check out the site.

Straight or curly isnt an issue if the hair can be braided.Its just that when the braids need redone,please take them out:)

You have to be a special kind of white girl to sport braids like a black girl. Also, dreads are not irreversible, you just have to cut them off and wait until new hair grown in. If you go to a professional, your braids should stay put even if you have straight hair.

Braids work for anybody. I think your question should have been "how do braids work?".
Cornrows, on the other hand, usually look trashy on white people. The contrast between hair and scalp is much more visible on white people than on black people.

Yes, I have straight hair and my best friend braids my hair once a month in different styles. It usually lasts about a week or so. I put gel on it at night and wear a do-rag or bandana to keep my hair nice while I sleep.
Only put dreads in your hair if you want to keep it like that for life. I haven't seen too many white people that know how to keep their dreads looking nice, that's the problem. And you would have to have really thick hair to make it look right.

I personally don't think white women look "right" with braids....plus your hair wont hold the style nearly as long as it would for a black woman. Dreads are cool....but they are irreversible unless you don't mind cutting off all your hair:)

As long as you have the right attitude braids look good on anybody! Even if your hair was only 1 inch and silky straight you could get your hair braided. You would just have to find someone who is really good. GO FOR IT : )

Do not do dreds!! They make your hair smell sooo bad, especially if you are white! Plus the only way to get them out is to cut them. Go to a salon and ask them about the braids.
