How do you make your straight hair wavy(not permanently)?

I want to make my hair wavy sometimes, like when someone's hair is french braided all day and they take it out and it leaves it wavy. I can not french braid and I know often that wave doesn't last long. What are other options?

It doesn't have to be a French braid. Just braid a few sections before bed (while damp...not WET) and take them out in the morning. Make sure to turn the ends into a curl or you will have "pokey" ends. When you take them out, don't comb thru them just use your fingers or a pic to adjust a bit and then a very small amount of hair spray to finish.

Take sections and braid them damp. Or you could roll damp sections up on pieces of cloth and then tie the ends. Unroll it when it's dry. You could twist damp sections and then secure the ends with clips. Use your imagination!

There are equipments available where you can get your hair curly and wavy and one wash its back to straight hair again. L'Oreal has it and its inexpensive. Ask your hair stylist about it.

Buy some soft, spiral rollers at the drug store. The type I use have wire through them with two ends you wrap together. Some look like pipe cleaners with fabric covering on them. Damp hair with some type of mousse, gel, etc, follow instructions on package of rollers. I have long and very very straight hair and this works very well for me.

A couple of different ways...

Rollers work well..

Also, before going to bed, put your damp hair into a braid, and when you wake up and remove the braid, your hair is wavy. VOILA!

After I've showered and combed out my hair, I'll put it up in a bun when it's still damp...twist and wrap hair around and secure with a clip. After a few hours of letting it air dry, I'll take out the bun and have instant waves all over.
