So here's the deal with braids aka extensions with human hair. Micro braids are the small braids that Kim (from Moesha and The Parkers had) Also if you remember the show living single Sinclair always had them. Brandi has also had them the majority of her career. Human hair is better for your hair because it's not as drying as synethtic hair. It doesn't contain chemicals that will hurt and dry your own hair. You will notice your hair growing more simply becuase you're not playing with it and you're not able to shed the hair your normally shed on a daily basis. Also, when your hair is braided you are not washing out your natural oils (Sebum) as frequently. Downside? When you take out the braids you will notice an increase in split ends and you will need a good trim. Also, you may notice that the hair on your temples is very thin from the constant strain of the braids. Bottom line is, I couldn't wear a ponytail for months from all the braiding I did. My temples were BALD! So you will see growth, but afer the trimming and washing takes place it won't be anything THAT significant.

If you braid your hair VERY tightly it can pull on the hair too much and eventually pull it out. But you'd have to spend hours every day with it braided very tightly for years. Normal braids are fine.

i work at a daycare... i have seen children with ethnic hair and braids have problems with hair loss. i have asked around and the answer to me is that if the braids are too tight then yes it can cause your hair to fall out..... not to an extreme though... just make sure they are not tight

It depends on what size braids. If they give you knots in your hair of course it will tangle and you may rip or have to cut some out,that is losing your hair. Micro braids and different kinds of braiding hair make cut fine or thin hair and tangle it. But if they are medium or larger braids or your own hair it is better for you.

Braids don't actually cause hair loss, they do help contribute to it though. Same as wearing a ponytail constantly. You have to change your hairstyle periodically in order for it to remain healthy. Braids are said to promote hair growth, however. Just keep your scalp healthy and clean, and make sure the braids aren't too tight, as that causes little bumps all over you scalp.

I had my hair in braids before for a month or so, and when I finally unraveled it, lots of hair fell out...

But don't worry, it was only because you shed about 1,000 times a day and it was shed hair that was all wound up in the braids. I agree that your braids shouldn't be too tight next to the scalp. And I washed my hair everyday with a light formula, like Johnson's baby shampoo, and do not add conditioner because it will make your hair sticky.

I'm not sure what the consequences would be in the long-term, but for a month or two, it is fine. If you see that your hair looks like it is thinning or is already fine, I wouldn't suggest braids.

Not braids in general, but if you get extensions regularly it can break off your hair really badly. Look at Brandy, her forehead was not always that big. Seriously.

No its not true if anything it will help your hair grow a bit you can look for the free-style braids ,those are the ones that just hang down it takes a long time to do also get you some corn rowws too that would look cute since you say you have short hair w/the extentions it will last longet tooooo, keep me posted.....

Fake hair, over time will pull at your hair...eventually making it fall out. OR so I've heard. If you get braids without extensions, you'll be ok.

yes its true. the braids or corn rows break because of your hair being tightly twisted. just like when you twist a towel on your hair after a shower, that breaks it also. i do hair and do not recommend braids or twists.

Please try to go to a reputable hair stylist. They will give you all the help you need. If your hair is thin; try iron supplements/visit your doctor/practicioner first!!! Cornrows are good, ask the stylist to avoid tight braiding arond the hair-line.

Tight braid can pull out your hair, same as a brush can. It is just pulled in bunches, because of the way it is pulled in braids.
